SCALE OF BALANCE
Sometimes it is very important how we define things and conditions. Especially when we think about mental health.
Let's think about anxiety. It can be both good and bad.
It may bad if it prevents our normal life too much; when from a good hired hand becomes a bad landlord.
Anxiety can be good sign to us when things are going too far from our control or happening too fast. Anxiety works like fire alarm: it tells us to slow down, relax and to have more strength. It's very important how we define our emotions. Just like is a wall the end or a hindrance or just a restrainers or possibility to something new.
In therapy we can work three different ways.
concentrate on solving problems
concentrate on strengthening our positive, strong skills
concentrate on both cups When we concentrate on solving problems it may cause serious negative side effect: a person may start to define oneself with too heavy negative signs and stop to believe in his/hers strengths and possibilities. Negative sing can be too predictive on behalf of it. A person may think that I'm a loser, good for nothing.
When we concentrate on those positive signs and try to make them stronger, it helps a person lot start to believe that I'm good and problems can be solved. In many cases when we are depressed we feel that everything is wrong and when we are happy things are not so bad. Sometimes when we are in better condition those thing we earlier thought that they are problems or negative are no more problems to us. When there are things that don't feel so good, maybe we can live with them anyway.
It is a question of attitude and what we believe. If we think that we are good persons in spite of our problems it helps a lot. The other way it's not so good. With movie therapy we can work on all those levels and from different dimensions.
I prefer positive thinking, because I believe what Dalai Lama once said:
"If we can solve a problem, there is no need to mourn about it.
If we can't solve a problem, there is no use to mourn about it."
